L'INVENTION DU SAUVAGE
by Fien Troch
(in development)
Summer 1897. 267 Congolese people are forcibly taken from their homeland and transported to the World Exhibition close to Brussels, Belgium. Completely unaware and alongside one hundred soldiers from the Force Publique who have been brought along, they are housed in a temporary barracks beside the Colonial Palace. They will stay there over the course of a summer. The hopeful arrival of the Congolese quickly turns into a violently forced performance that they increasingly oppose and that spirals more and more out of control.
